Flash Yoga Mob Dance Party at the College of Charleston

Students literally came out of the crowd to participate in a yoga flash mob and dance party — the first in South Carolina. Flash mobs have become popular over the past year — people sing, dance or now, do yoga, spontaneously in a public place. College of Charleston yoga instructor Skip Rector had the idea last semester: “The thought of 100 people doing the ’sun salute’ was so powerful,” Rector says. “The students in my classes were extremely enthusiastic when I mentioned it and we just went from there. During the mob, seeing so many people doing yoga was empowering — students coming together in unison to do something that is good for them individually and also to show observers that anyone can do yoga.”
