Have you ever had major surgery? General anaesthesia is some really nasty stuff, with a ton of really unpleasant(and sometimes life threatening) side-effects.
I am not advocating hypnosis by any means, but I get really sick of the idea that patients should just accept what doctors say without question. Doctors are just like the rest of us, which is to say: a good percentage of them are assholes and/or morons.

  2. Im about to ruin my career by plunging a knife into a completely conscious person. But your absolutely right, lets focus on the lying.

  5. Interestingly, before ether anaesthesia was first used in 1846, there were a significant number of surgeries carried out in Britain, France, the US and India using a technique called mesmerism to place the patient in a hypnotic trance, allowing the surgery to be carried out painlessly. these were often much more serious operations than simple appendectomies, such as the removal of large scrotal tumours and amputations. So it is possible!

  11. Sure hypnosis may be a powerful tool, but none of the “qualities” Carla described involve sticking a knife in a patient and slicing them open. I can’t even imagine what that would be like in real life

  12. Yeah they are…I was an intern at the local radiology department and one patient jumped out of the MRI, bcause she could ‘feel the radiation’…

And another patient wouldn’t go near the CT, saying the machine (MY MACHINES!) would disslove him…

Therefore it’s number one rule: patients are idiots…
But hey, we had lots of fun in the controlling room xD

  18. I know what you mean. I’m not a doctor, but it must suck when a complete idiot tries to challenge the opinion of a well-trained physician

  23. I get pissed off with patients like these. They always think they know better, and even though this is a show, this shit happens in real life.

  25. One of my favorite exchanges in Scrubs history…

Kelso: “When I say the name Turkleton, people laugh.”
Turk: “Maybe because that’s not my name, sir.”
