I see how this works if the event ends up being successful, but there are many seriously dangerous situations where the event will not turn out well if one confronts their fears (e.g. confronting an abusive angry & suicidal spouse letting him know that he may have a problem or that you may have to leave the relationship. It has a high enough chance in ending in something such as suicide, homicide). In this case, I think it’s a little more than eliminating the fear to speak or participate…

But this is my worry (well, one of them): I am giving my husband a 2nd chance after we have been divorced. Everyone says don’t. I suffered extreme grief after he left me before. I know how I will feel if he does this to me again. But anyone could do that to me – not just him. They could up and leave and take half my home while I have 4 kids to care for. Then this fear leads to fear of me dying because my kids will not be loved, and will be split from each other. I live in terror! Help, please?x

The message here is in the first step.
To separate yourself from the anxiety…to step away from it.
